Social Service Projects

(I) Monthly Chinmaya Widow Ration Pension Distribution

Social service projects are inspired by the well-known principle of ‘You, Not me’. Service is done not with the sense of giving but of sharing self-lessly without expecting anything in return. This helps the needy to overcome the state of lacking (आभाव) bravely facing the trials and tribulations in life. Service should not feed the ego of the one who serves, rather it should help him purify his mind (चित शुद्धि). It is like doing a divine duty of helping who need our sympathy and care.

Monthly Chinmaya Widow Ration Pension Distribution is our major service project. Under this project, launched in Aug. 2002, we distribute ration worth Rs. 1000/- every month to 200 very poor widows. This is the 16th year of this "Sewa Prakalap" and we are running it with donations from the kind hearted people of the Holy City . Many people make regular contributions for this noble cause. Besides regular monthly ration we also distribute:

  • Books, Stationery for their school going children twice a year.
  • Blankets/Shawls, Lady Suits and utensils or other such items of utility on special occasions.
  • Arrangements are made for providing free vocational training to make them self-reliant.

We invite you to kindly join this great movement of helping the needy who require our immediate help and care. Your donation, whatever you decide to pay every month, will be of great value and for this we will ever remain indebted to you.

If required our person will personally collect this amount every month from you and will also give the receipt thereof in the following month.

By so doing you will not only derive personal satisfaction but will also help wipe put the tears of the needy who may bless and pray for you and your family.

You can also join the Corpus Fund for this programme by making one time donation in the form of fixed deposit to perpetuate the sacred memory of your dear ones. Only the interest of the fixed deposit will be spent for widows as per your instructions.

We also invite you to visit any of our such functions as per your convenience to see for yourself how accountable and transparent we are in this project. The function is organized on the first Sunday of every month at 11.00 am (sharp) at Bhavan’s SL Public School, Amritsar.
