Programmes of Mission
‘The principal forum through which Chinmaya Mission disseminates this man-making knowledge of Vedanta is Gyan Yagnas and Spiritual camps’. These Yagnas give us an opportunity to listen and grasp the subtle message of the Scriptures from the learned Swamis in a very simple and easy to understand language. These periodic doses of pure knowledge help us to move and grow in our spiritual journey.
Swami Purushottamandananda was the first to conduct a week long Gyan Yagna at Amritsar in 1997. This Gyan Yagna was in fact the direct blessing of Lord Rama. It was originally scheduled for Ayodhya where it could not somehow be arranged. Then Swami Pushottamananda, who had been consistently requested to visit Amritsar, asked if that yagna could be shifted to Amritsar. It was a welcome idea.
So the first Gyan Yagna at Amritsar in 1997 was the ‘Divine Will’. Encouraged by the response of the people, two to three such Gyan Yagnas are arranged every year. The Swamis who have conducted these yagans here include Swami Tejomayananda Swami Madhavnanda, Swamini Vimalananda, Swami Chaitanyananda, Swami Advaitananda, Swami Nikhilananda Swami Bhaskrananda, Swami Subodhananda, Swamini Puranananda., Swami Mitrananda. These Yagnas are based on scriptures like Holy Geeta, Upanishadas, Sri Ramacharitmanas and books written by Adi shankracharya.
